Beyond Self Reliance

12 04 2010

Self reliance goes beyond the individual “self” to its proper place in a much larger context. Yes it means to not rely an another, but also that I shouldn’t rely too much on my own self either, for I am just another human as well. Therefore for me to achieve self reliance, I must also be free from the (co)dependency upon my own self. Or in other words, not to get caught up in my own b.s. Better to be as in a canoe paddling downstream – I have to paddle, but only in the flow of the rushing water. How this applies lies in the perception of a goal as being a service to provide, and not an ambition to indulge.
